Jay, or as I knew him â??Duffy,â? was one of the kindest men I ever knew and I loved him dearly. My first memory of him was at his Asheville wedding to my cousin, Stephanie Thorp; I was a 13-year-old bridesmaid. As memorable as that lovely wedding was, I best remember Stephanie and Duffy trying to quietly steal off to their hotel rooms to change out of their wedding regalia. Upon stepping into the elevator they appeared to want to have some alone time but I jumped in followed by several other bridesmaids who saw them. I guess we were over the weight limit as the elevator stopped and the alarm had to be pushed. Duffy and others finally pried the doors open from within with a comb. We found we were between floors and had to step up 2 or 3 feet to get out. They were kind enough in later years to put me up in their NJ home where I came to fully appreciate Duffyâ??s warmth, vitality, and caring nature. In later years we looked forward to their brief annual visit to DC as they traveled between Boston and Florida. I, and indeed, anyone who ever knew Jay â??Duffyâ? Meiselman, will look back in gratitude for his presence and will miss him. We extend our deepest sympathy to Stephanie, Dana, David, Sarah, Seth, and Regan. Jody and brother Russell Rapport
