Barbara Sue Hoffman's Obituary
Barbara Sue Hoffman (nee Cooper), Age 74, 8/2/1948 –6/1/2023, died after bravely coping for several years with a debilitating illness. Barbara most recently lived in Boynton Beach, Florida, and formerly resided in Arlington Heights and Lincolnwood, Illinois. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvia and David Cooper. She is survived by her adoring husband Lonny, to whom she was married for 23 special years. Barbara is also survived by her loving son Joshua Welbel, and her dear brother Peter Nomides.
Barbara attended Niles West HS, Indiana University, and Northwestern University, with the intention of becoming a French teacher. She had a long career as a licensed massage therapist helping many people.
Dancing was her primary passion. Barbara trained in ballet and worked professionally for a short time in Colorado. She had the wanderlust and loved traveling the world with her husband. She traveled extensively throughout the US and overseas and frequently attended Progressive Line Dance Workshops.
In addition, Barbara was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved singing. She was a 2nd Soprano in many Jewish choirs,and was most recently a member of the Club Singers in South Florida.
Barbara had many other diverse interests. She was an equestrian, whose Dressage trained horse, Doc, was ultimately donated to the Chicago Police Department. Barbara was voracious reader who loved mysteries. She was a creative cook, loved experimenting, and was praised by her friends who had the opportunity to try her cheesecake.
Barbara was a gifted and talented individual, a bright and beautiful light who shined with the intensity of her many passions. She was loved and will be sorely missed.
Services will be held at Beth Israel Funeral Home in Boynton Beach, Florida.
