Charles Victor Bogdany's Obituary
On July 16, 2026 Charles Victor Bogdany - always known as Charlie - passed away. He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Muriel Bogdany and beloved grandparents Poppy Joe and Grandma Greene. He is survived by his brother Mark Bogdany, wife Bonnie, children Erika, Sean and daughter-in-law Jessica, and grandchildren Nathan and Jordan.
Born in Newark, NJ on October 2, 1947 - Charlie was committed to being a lifetime New Jerseyan. As life would have it, at the age of 18, Charlie volunteered and was enlisted with the Navy’s Seabees unit (not surprising that his initials aligned). He spent two years defending our country in Vietnam - an experience that deeply shaped him.
His continued commitment to the military was evident everywhere he went. From attire (including his hats that became a staple), to his ongoing dedication to supporting veterans nationwide, to the simple, “Thank you for your service” briefs, to his giving nature…it was certain how deeply committed Charlie has always been. Charlie wasn’t just committed to the military; family has always been a deep rooted priority.
When Charlie married Bonnie he gained an additional loving family that became his own that continued to grow throughout the years. From the soccer fields in NJ to the cheerleading competitions and from the quiet moments in his rock garden (that he created) to working endlessly to provide for his family - Charlie has always been a steady, loving person in all of our lives.
Later in life, Charlie and Bonnie decided to move to Florida to enjoy being with their grandchildren as they grew up. He would have it no other way. A fisherman at heart - his time on the water filled him with peace and solace; it was important for him to share this with his grandchildren. Jordan, his youngest grandchild, has become the next fisherman in the Bogdany lineage. Who has shared his gained wisdom and love of the sport with Charlie. It created a beautiful connection!
When not reeling in fish, Charlie was firmly on the sidelines of Nathan’s local and international lacrosse games. Always cheering (loudly!) to support his oldest grandson in what he was passionate about.
Charlie will always be remembered for his listening ear, his big bear hugs, and his wisdom. His love for Motown and the Oldies had him drumming to the beat everywhere he went. And if anything was broken, he and his tools in his “magic garage” would fix it.
He taught us all, always, that no matter what life throws our way…CAN DO! Charlie is the epitome of valor in every way. As Nathan - whose connection with Pop was undeniable - has shared, “Fly high, Pop!”
