I decided to look up an old home room teacher from 1979 at Elizabeth High School, Mr. Howie Friedman. I am saddened to learn of his passing a few years ago. Although I only spent 20 minutes a day with Mr. Friedman in home room, it was the best 20 minutes of the school day. After graduating we spent a few times together with other classmates. He was definitely a personable guy. It was nice to see the positive impact and impression he brought upon his students. RIP Howie. Every time I rock out I will think of you! ????

Condolences to Howie's family. He will be missed by his "Fair Lawn High School family" as well. I was a math teacher at FLHS and Howie and I shared many students who took his and my courses as Seniors and we got to compare notes on the best way to deliver math and physics through their overlapping concepts. Additionally it was also a pleasure working with Howie as he judged his annual "Physics Olympics". Collectively, everyone who worked with Howie at any level came to know him as a consummate (if not a little unorthodox) professional, always putting his students first, by sharing compassion in his own way. That was the Howie we all knew and loved. Rest in peace, Howie and May the Force be with you!Dave Break

Our sincerest sympathy to Howie's family. To know Howie was an honor. His dedication to the student body of FLHS was a gift to every student and parent, who was blessed to know him. He will live on in our memories and hopefully his inspiration to the students will pass on to the next generation. God bless him and hopefully we will meet again!!! My sincerest condolences to the Friedman family. I was an FLHS student of his and Boptones member 15 years ago and am at a loss myself, I can't imagine what those closest to him are feeling. There is nothing I can say that hasn't been said already, but I will be forever grateful to have known him and have him make an impact on my life. RIP Mr. Friedman…you were one of the great ones.

First, my condolences to Howie's family. He loved you so much, he left us flat in Fair Lawn to be near you in Florida. We were friends and colleagues for 24 years. He came to Fair Lawn HS when Physics was just for the few and immediately turned it onto a class that every senior wanted to take…even the kids who probably shouldn't have been on there. He was charismatic, innovative, energetic, accessible, dedicated and beloved…with a big touch of crazy added on. We always enjoyed having him at our home. I missed out on sharing too much fun with Howie, or joining Boptones, since I never seemed to stay single long enough. However, it was great fun performing "Who's On First?" with him, or just chewing the fat after classes ab anything/everything/everyone. A light like Howie never goes out. It just moves to another dimension. Whether it's angels or little green men, he's already teaching to greet each other with "'Sup" and "'Sup Choo" They're gain. Our loss. Thank you Howard Friedman for helping me to understand what a good education meant. With your mentoring and guidance I was able to move upward into a better place in the world! I am a better person for having been lucky enough to have known you at a time when your high standards of education and morals and standards were exactly what I needed to learn and accept. As a parent of a FLHS grad, his contribution to the education and enlightenment of his students can only be measured by the thanks he got from them and their parents. His Boptones concerts showed a 'side' of him that can be better appreciated by those associated with Boptones,on and off the stage.His energy, commitment,knowledge, will be missed by many,,but remembered forever by anyone associated with him. The Big Man upstairs has a great leader for His "Rock 'n Roll,Forever," band. Rock On!!
