Ira was simply one of those people you loved being around—kind, easygoing, and always ready with a little humor. Some of my favorite times were spent with Ira and his lovely Dorothy, sharing cocktails, reminiscing, and just enjoying each other’s company. There was something so special about those moments that made you want to linger a little longer.
I was always amazed by how adaptable Ira was, especially with his hearing technology—switching between his phone, TV, and earbuds without missing a beat. And he truly had a green thumb; his orchids seemed to thrive under his care for years, just like the relationships he nurtured so naturally.
One story that always makes me smile is how he prepared for Hurricane Andrew—with a card table, a bottle of wine, and playing cards set up in the safest closet so he and Dorothy could ride it out together. That was Ira—practical, devoted, and with a quiet sense of humor about life. And when the storm passed, he brought people together again, organizing barbecues so everyone could share what they had.
He took pride in how he looked, always impeccably dressed, and he loved his family deeply. It meant so much to him to be part of important moments, like watching his grandchildren’s wedding, even if it had to be virtual. Through it all, he never wanted to be a burden, even when things were difficult, and he was surrounded by such loving care and devotion.
Ira will be deeply missed, but remembered with a smile, a story, and a sense of warmth that will stay with you forever.
