Martin Kartagener's Obituary
Dr. Martin (Marty) Henry Kartagener, age 64, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and colleague, passed peacefully on June 7, 2016 in Boca Raton, Florida. Dr. Kartagener was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 12, 1951 to holocaust survivors, Dr. Simon and Ida Kartagener. He graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton (Harpur College) in 1973. Dr. Kartagener married Carol Schneider in 1976. In 1980, he received his diploma in podiatric medicine from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, now known as the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Kartagener practiced podiatric medicine in Florida since 1980 and founded Coconut Creek Podiatry Associates in 1983. Following his retirement from active practice, Dr. Kartagener assumed ownership of Bistro Zenith, a popular restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida. His dedication to his family, friends and patients is an inspiration and example to all those who loved him. He is survived by his wife, Carol Kartagener, an attorney in Boca Raton; her parents, Eugene and Helen Schneider; his sister Estelle Kobilinsky (Dr. Lawrence Kobilinsky); sister-in-law Cheryl Kranowitz (Hy); brother-in-law Dr. Harvey Schneider (Rose Ann); niece Cantor Hayley Kobilinsky Poserow (Benjamin); grand-nephew Samuel Poserow; niece Lori Kushel (Alex); grand-niece Madison Kushel; and nephew Paul Kranowitz (Jamie). A service to celebrate his life will be held on June 9, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Rd., Boynton Beach, Florida 33437 with interment to follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, Boynton Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Friends of Magen David Adom (Israeli Ambulance Service), the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the South Palm Beach County Jewish Federation, and the Myositis Association (TMA) (specify restriction to IBM research).
