Marvin Krauss' Obituary
Marvin Krauss, 94, passed away on July 11, 2026, one week shy of his 95th birthday, leaving behind a lifetime of service, hard work, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
Born in 1931, Marvin grew up in Arverne, New York, where his love for the beach began and remained with him throughout his life. As a boy, he spent countless hours enjoying the ocean in Far Rockaway with his two older brothers. He also developed a strong work ethic and a zest for life. He often fondly recalled tap dancing alongside Barbara Walters, a story he shared with his trademark smile and sense of humor.
From 1952 to 1954, Marvin proudly served his country as a Seaman in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War era, with assignments in Cape May, New Jersey, Ellis Island, New York, and aboard the USCG Cutter Gentian. He later continued his service in the Coast Guard Reserve. His commitment to serving others would become a defining characteristic throughout his life.
In the summer of 1955, while enjoying a day at the beach, Marvin met the love of his life, Lee. Their chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong romance, and they were married in 1956. Together they built a loving home in Patchogue, New York, where they raised their daughter and son, creating a family rooted in love, laughter, and enduring values.
In 1967, Marvin fulfilled his entrepreneurial dream by opening The Pacesetter, a men's clothing store that became a respected fixture in the Patchogue community for more than three decades. Known for his honesty, personal service, and dedication to his customers, he built not only a successful business but countless lasting friendships.
Marvin believed deeply in giving back to his community. He served as Past President and Chairman of the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce Merchant Division, Past President of the Patchogue Lions Club in 1978, Chairman of the Lions Club Sunshine Committee, and was honored as Grand Marshal of the Patchogue Fourth of July Parade. He enthusiastically supported organizations including the Guide Dog Foundation and the Long Island Game Farm.
After retiring to Florida, Marvin's commitment to service never slowed. He served as President of Tiara Condominium on Singer Island, was a board director at Lake Harbour Cove Condominiums in Riviera Beach, volunteered with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, where he was recognized as Citizens on Patrol Volunteer of the Month, joined the inaugural team of TSA security screeners at Palm Beach International Airport, and continued working well into his nineties as a security officer at the West Palm Beach Courthouse.
Marvin embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved traveling with Lee and his family, especially to Acapulco, Mexico, and on numerous cruises. Whether swimming in the ocean, hosting family barbecues, reading a good book, or, in recent years, creating beautiful handcrafted hook rugs, he approached every hobby with the same dedication and joy that defined his life.
Above all else, Marvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor. He was known for his kindness, infectious sense of humor, generosity, and remarkable work ethic. He made people feel welcome, valued, and appreciated wherever he went, and he made them laugh.
Marvin's greatest legacy is the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched through his service, compassion, and friendship. His example of integrity, perseverance, and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 51 years, Lee; He is survived by his daughter, Caryn, and son Steven; his grandchildren Troy and Erica (Trevor); extended family; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Though Marvin will be deeply missed, his laughter, wisdom, generosity, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
