March 1st 2015My mom was a glorious mixture of beauty, grace, innocence, childlike silliness, sophistication and love- mix in a little bluntness, moodiness, unpredictability and anger and thereâ??s Millie. She loved people, animals, nature, music and beauty. She was the nucleus of our family and their many friends. Mom loved a good time and created an incredible social network with lots of parties. Although we didnâ??t have a lot of money growing up, we went every year to a bungalow colony in the country, where all their friends gathered for fun, dancing, swimming, card games, mahjong and more, while all the kids had a wonderful freedom to play and explore and when we were supposed to be sleeping, we would peek in on our parents who danced, played games and always laughed. Everything around her had to look good and she created beauty and harmony with simple things. When I was quite young, mom said we needed pillows and we had an old couch of down feathers. Mom proceeded, along with her sewing machine, to cut up the couch and made pillows for our family, and for my sister and I, there was a magical land of flying feathers everywhere, for months to come. One day mom decided to paint the living room red and so it came to pass. My dad never knew what to expect when he came home from work. If you had an ache or a pain she would say, â?? You want I should rub you down with Muster oil?â? If you coughed, sheâ??d give you a mixture of honey and lemon to take. If your nose was stuffed, Vicks. If you got sicker, momâ??s famous chicken soup, which was the best Iâ??ve ever had. Of course there was always Alka seltzer, for stomach pains, eating too much or indigestion. Mom was a simple, no games, what you saw is what you got, and what she thought, she told you, no filters type of woman to the end. But her sense of humor and quick mind made life so much fun with her. And to the very end, when we spoke everyday, we made one joke after the other. We always said we would write a book using many of the very funny things she said, like Radio Tires instead of Radials. We were supposed to start this summer. In summation, if you look at her remedies for life: Mustor oil, burning, hot; Honey and lemon, sweet and sour; Chicken soup, delicious and soothing; Vicks, spicy and opening; Alka Seltzer, very fizzy. That was my mom! And if you blow up a balloon to its maximum and let it go, we watch with joy, the balloon going all over the place always surprising us with its direction and making the viewer laugh. That was her, Millie, Mildred, Mickey, Malka, my mom, and the air is all out. I will always love and adore her and will always hear her Radio Tires. I miss you so much, Mommy. Love Holly Klein
