Millicent Poss

Millicent kept well informed about politics and current events. One of her joys in life was reading the daily newspaper. Although I only had a small contact with her former husband, Sydney, I am told that he also treasured reading the daily newspaper. He would confront his daughter, Laurie, for not reading a daily paper and ask how she could have anything to talk about if she wasn't aware of the news. Maybe it's a generation thing.

Millicent had some wonderful expressions. She was fond of saying, Every body's doing it" in relation to any perceived trend. As to the heat in Florida, she would say, "Florida's noted for its air conditioning." To her doctor daughter, Laurie, who when Millicent was visiting told laurie on the second day of the visit that she wasn't feeling well, and Laurie noted that Millicent was feeling alright the day before, Millicent said, "So that's what you tell your patients, 'You weren't sick yesterday?' " While living in Miami, I would take her to supper and a movie once or twice a month. If she didn't like the movie, I could feel her looking at me until she caught my attention. I discovered that she sometrimes had difficulty in hearing the dialogue of the movie, so I got the ear phones from the lobby. After putting on the ear phones and watching the movie that she hadn't liked initally, she said, That was marvelous!" I will miss her, but her strong spirit will live on in our memories.
