Ralph Schelin's Obituary
Ralph (Bob) Schelin—92Bob died Thursday morning at the age of 92 in hospice care in Boca Raton. His family had gathered around him to say goodbye to their beloved patriarch, who leaves behind Doris, his cherished wife of 71 years, and their children and children-in-law Barry and Teri Schelin, Judy and Billy Albert, and Abby and Richard Samlin, as well as 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, all of whom were devoted to Bob. Born in Brooklyn on November 26, 1926, Bob served in the United States Army in the Far East during and after World War II. His unit was among the first to occupy Tokyo after the Japanese surrender. Upon his return to America, he married Doris and they built their life together around family, first in Brooklyn and later on Long Island and in south Florida. For Bob, life was a kind of moveable family reunion. He never needed an excuse to throw a party and to be around his children, and their children, and their children. Dancing, singing, laughing, playing golf and tennis, more than occasionally wagering on pro and college football, always planning the next cruise, charming one and all, Bob lived each of his 33,670 days to the fullest. He will live always in the hearts of those who knew him. If it were up to him, there would be no funeral—only one last party.
